Hi everyone! First I would like to thank everyone who came and visited us at Sparticipation! We loved getting to see and meet everyone and we can't wait for our auditions next week.
We hold auditions once a year and usually end up with a team of about 16 dancers. This year our auditions will be held on Wednesday September 4th, from 7-10pm at the IM Circle Upper Gym. Check in for auditions will begin at 6:15 and we will be holding a group warm-up/stretch at 6:40pm. At 7pm we will start learning a short jazz combination taught by our Vice President. After that combination we will be learning a short contemporary/lyrical combo taught by our President. Each combination will be assisted and demonstrated by members of our Executive Board. Feel free to contact us via email, facebook, and/or Instagram. Follow us on all of our social media platforms to keep up to date with our team! -Emily McCue Showstoppers social media director

And suddenly another year has come and gone...
Hello Spartan ShowStoppers Supporters! This is Liz McCormick, writing to you one last time as the club's president. I have spent four glorious years on this team, and this group has easily become my favorite thing at MSU. For those of you who may be reading this looking at which teams to try out for in college, I can assure you that you'll not only have an amazing experience as a showstopper, but you'll grow as a dancer as well. One of my favorite things about this team is that we're self-choreographed, meaning that all of our dancers have the opportunity to choreograph for our annual show in April. Being a choreographer for this team has helped me mature as a person, granting me valuable life skills I now apply when teaching as a dance instructor or as a ULA in MSU's classrooms. One of the things that attracted me to this club all those years ago was the family aspect the ShowStoppers provides for our members. Growing up in dance studios, most of us were used to having a tight knit group of people to turn to, and that's exactly what this club provides. These girls have been here for me through thick and thin, and I've made some of my best friends by being on this team. Tomorrow at our final practice, I hand over the reigns to my successor, Vanessa Stephens. Vanessa has been a force of nature, serving as our secretary for the past two years. I'm so excited to see her become president and carry on the club's legacy. We also have an incredible Executive Board for next year, though I can't reveal names as we haven't announced the results to our current members yet. This post is becoming longer than I had intended, so I will sign off here before I get too emotional. Teach me how to say goodbye because I don't want to leave this club. One last time, xoxo Liz McCormick Spartan ShowStoppers President Hello Spartans!
We had such a blast at Sparticipation yesterday and we hope you did too! We talked to lots of eager dancers, and that makes us even more excited to hold auditions on Tuesday. If we didn't catch you at Sparticipation yesterday, that's okay! Below, I will outline the email we sent out to those who signed up for our email list. The Spartan ShowStoppers Dance Club was founded in January 2014, which means we are kicking off our fifth season on campus! We are a tight-knit group of dancers that work together throughout the year on numerous dances for our annual spring showcase in April. Additionally, we have monthly social events, team trips, and fundraisers for our team to bond and become like a family. Having a group like this to lean on really helped me transition into college and I hope that our team can do that for you as well. We strongly promote a positive environment where everyone feels comfortable and has the ability to grow into amazing dancers. We are also self-choreographed, meaning that our members have the opportunity to create a dance for our members to perform. Spartan ShowStoppers is the ONLY dance club on campus that specializes in TAP which sets us apart from other dance clubs. However, tap is optional to all members and is not required to join. Generally, about half of our members are tappers. We also perform various styles including, but not limited to, contemporary, lyrical, jazz, tap, hip hop, musical theatre, Pom, and amazing production numbers that kick off the opening and closings of our two act showcase! We do not specialize in competitive dance nor do we attend annual dance competitions. We do, however, take place in on-campus events that we're invited to perform at such as Spartans Got Talent. Any performance outside of our Spring Showcase will be optional for our general members. Our club meets twice a week on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings for weekly practices and meetings, and has a point system that we work with throughout the year. Additionally our club is very cost friendly and only requires members to pay $25-$30 dues each semester. These dues go towards costumes, shoes, practice fees, and showcase costs. The rest of our funds come from fundraising and donations. We try to make our club as cost friendly as possible for our members to continue dancing throughout their college years. Tryouts are being held on Tuesday September 5th, 2017 from 8-11pm at the Holden Hall Dance Studio, room G28. Please arrive early to stretch, fill out a tryout form, and pay the $5 tryout fee. Holden Hall is located in South Campus and easily accessible by taking bus 30. Can't make it to the official tryout? Don't worry! We will be holding an alternate date for auditions, but we ask that you email us for the time and place if you cannot attend Tuesday's tryout. We highly encourage you to take a look at our website to learn more about us. We also have videos from our past three showcases if you wish to see what kind of skills we focus on. As far as social media, you can find us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter! Feel free to email us with any questions, comments, or concerns! We would love to have you as part of our club and hope to see you at tryouts! Go Green! Go White! Go ShowStoppers! Liz McCormick Spartan ShowStoppers President It's the most wonderful time of the year: Welcome Week!!
We hope all Spartans had a good move in and are preparing for an exciting semester, whether it's your first or last or somewhere in between. Welcome Week always has amazing opportunities for students to expand their horizons and meet new people on campus. Tomorrow is my favorite of those events: Sparticipation. Sparticipation is like a job fair, except for clubs. You get to wander the numerous tables and learn about different clubs here on campus from the club members themselves. This is how I found the ShowStoppers my freshmen year and I love interacting with other students and let them know about my little slice of heaven. This year, due to the rains, Sparticipation will be taking place at the Breslin Center on the west side of campus. All of our Executive Board will be there to answer any of your questions and tell you why the ShowStoppers was the right team for us. We can also talk about the auditioning process if you're curious. We also have candy to give out. Yay! As always, please email us with any questions you might have about our club. We're here to help! xoxo Liz McCormick Spartan ShowStoppers President
